What If Ten People Truly Prayed the Rosary?

A holy nun once reflected on the extraordinary power of just a few souls who sincerely pray and remain faithful to God. Her thought was simple: if God was willing to spare a city for the sake of a small number of righteous souls, imagine what He might do when even a handful of Catholics truly pray.

It is something worth thinking about—especially today.

What if ten people in our parish truly committed themselves to the Rosary?

What if ten families prayed it faithfully?

What if those ten encouraged ten more?

Could those prayers obtain graces for our parish? For Massachusetts? For our country? For the Church? For souls who have forgotten God?

We may never know this side of eternity.

Abraham Pleaded for a City

In Genesis 18, Abraham intercedes with God for Sodom.

He asks whether God would spare the city if fifty righteous people could be found there. Abraham continues pleading—forty-five, forty, thirty, twenty—and finally asks about ten.

God answers:

“I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.” — Genesis 18:32

The passage does not mean that ten people can mechanically guarantee that a city will be spared. Rather, it reveals something beautiful about intercessory prayer, righteousness, and God's mercy.

One faithful soul matters.

One family matters.

One person on his or her knees matters.

Never think your prayers are insignificant.

What About Massachusetts?

It can be easy to look around at our culture and become discouraged.

We see people abandoning the Faith. Churches struggle. Families are under tremendous pressure. Many no longer believe in God. Others have never been taught to pray.

Our response cannot simply be to complain about what the world has become.

Our response should be to pray.

What if, instead of spending an hour worrying about everything wrong with Massachusetts, we spent twenty minutes praying the Rosary for Massachusetts?

What if Catholics throughout our state began praying:

“Our Lady, bring Massachusetts back to your Son.”

Imagine the graces God could pour out.

What If Ten People Started?

Ten people doesn't sound like much.

But imagine ten parishioners committed to praying the Rosary every day.

Then each encouraged another person.

Ten becomes twenty.

Twenty becomes fifty.

Fifty becomes one hundred.

Soon there are parents praying with children, husbands and wives praying together, people praying during their commute, elderly parishioners praying from home, and young people learning to reach for their Rosary instead of their phones.

We don't need to wait for someone else to begin.

We can begin.

Don't Just Carry a Rosary—Pray It

Many Catholics have a Rosary.

It might be hanging from the rearview mirror, tucked inside a purse, sitting beside the bed, or kept in a pocket.

But Our Lady is inviting us to pray it.

The Rosary takes us through the life of Jesus with Mary. We meditate upon His Incarnation, His ministry, His Passion, His Resurrection and glory.

And while we meditate, we bring Him our intentions.

For the Church.

For our priests.

For Massachusetts.

For our country.

For the conversion of sinners.

For our families.

For those who have abandoned the Faith.

For souls who have nobody praying for them.

Pray Even When You Don't See Anything Happening

This is where faith becomes important.

We often want immediate evidence that our prayers are working.

But we cannot see grace.

You may pray a Rosary today for someone who has left the Faith and see absolutely nothing happen.

Pray tomorrow anyway.

You may pray for Massachusetts and wonder how your little Rosary could possibly make a difference.

Pray it anyway.

You may pray for the Church during difficult times and feel powerless.

Pray anyway.

Heaven sees what we cannot.

Become One of the Ten

Instead of asking, “Why isn't somebody doing something?”

Perhaps we should ask:

“Am I one of the people praying?”

Become one of the ten.

Pray one Rosary every day.

Offer it for the Church, the conversion of sinners, our priests, our families, our parish, and the return of our state and country to God.

Then invite someone else.

A spouse.

A child.

A friend.

Another parishioner.

You don't need to preach a sermon. Simply say:

“I'm praying a daily Rosary for Massachusetts and the Church. Will you pray one too?”

Imagine What God Could Do

We don't know God's plans, and prayer is never a formula for forcing a particular outcome.

But Scripture repeatedly teaches us the importance of intercession, perseverance, repentance, and confidence in God's mercy.

So let us stop underestimating what God can accomplish through ordinary people who pray faithfully.

Perhaps you cannot change Massachusetts.

Perhaps you cannot solve the problems facing the Church.

Perhaps you cannot convert someone you love.

But you can pick up your Rosary.

And you can ask Our Lady to take every Hail Mary to her Divine Son.

Will You Be One of the Ten?

This month, we invite every parishioner to make a simple commitment:

Pray the Rosary. Pray it faithfully. Pray it with confidence. And encourage someone else to pray it with you.

Pray for St. Catherine of Siena Chapel.

Pray for Massachusetts.

Pray for our country.

Pray for Holy Mother Church.

Pray for the conversion of sinners and the salvation of souls.

And then trust God with what happens next.

Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.
St. Catherine of Siena, pray for us.

Ten faithful souls can begin something much bigger than themselves. Pick up your Rosary and become one of them.
