The Story of the Infant Jesus of Prague

The devotion centers around a small statue of the Child Jesus in Prague.

The statue eventually came into the care of the Discalced Carmelites at the Church of Our Lady Victorious. During a period of war and turmoil, the monastery suffered greatly and devotion to the statue was neglected.

Years later, Venerable Father Cyril of the Mother of God, a Carmelite priest devoted to the Holy Infant, returned to Prague and found the statue damaged.

Its hands had been broken.

Father Cyril desired to have the statue repaired, but the monastery had very little money.

According to Carmelite tradition, while praying before the statue he heard these words:

“Have pity on Me, and I will have pity on you. Give Me My hands, and I will give you peace. The more you honor Me, the more I will bless you.”

Eventually the statue was repaired, and devotion to the Infant Jesus spread far beyond Prague.

Give Jesus Your Impossible Needs

There is something especially beautiful about approaching Almighty God under the appearance of a little Child.

We can become frightened by our problems.

Jesus is not.

We can see no solution.

Jesus already knows the way.

We worry about tomorrow.

Jesus asks us to trust Him today.

Devotion to the Infant Jesus reminds us that the Child lying helplessly in the arms of His Mother is also the King of Heaven and earth.

Nothing is beyond His power.

Bring Him your needs.

Bring Him your family.

Bring Him your bills.

Bring Him your illness.

Bring Him the problem you cannot solve.

Bring Him the situation you have almost given up on.

And then tell Him:

“Jesus, I trust in Thee.”

The Infant Jesus of Prague has long been invoked by Catholics for temporal and material necessities.

When money is tight, employment is uncertain, unexpected expenses arise, or you are worried about providing for your family, bring those worries to the Infant Jesus.

This devotion is not a promise of wealth or an easy life.

Instead, it teaches us to trust that Our Lord knows what we truly need and to ask Him with the confidence of a child approaching a loving Father.

Pray for what you need—and then ask for the grace to accept the manner and timing of God's answer.

For centuries, devotion to the Infant Jesus of Prague has spread through testimonies of Catholics who believed they received help after turning to the Holy Infant.

Stories have been told of unexpected financial assistance, employment obtained, illnesses improved, families protected, difficult situations resolved, and peace received during periods of tremendous uncertainty.

Prayer to the Infant Jesus of Prague

O Miraculous Infant Jesus,
we prostrate before Thy sacred image
and beseech Thee to cast a merciful look
upon our troubled hearts.

Let Thy tender Heart,
so inclined to pity,
be softened at our prayers
and grant us that grace
for which we ardently implore Thee.

[Mention your intention.]

Take from us all affliction and despair,
all trials and misfortunes with which we are laden.

For Thy Sacred Infancy's sake,
hear our prayers
and send us consolation and aid,
that we may praise Thee,
with the Father and the Holy Ghost,
forever and ever.

Amen.

When You Are Worried About Money

Place your financial worries before the Infant Jesus and pray:

“O Divine Infant Jesus, Thou knowest all my needs before I even speak them. I place my family, my work, my home, and all my material necessities into Thy little hands. Provide what Thou knowest we need, remove my fear, and teach me to trust completely in Thy Providence. Infant Jesus of Prague, I trust in Thee.”

Then do what you reasonably can—and leave what you cannot control in His hands.

How to Begin This Devotion

You do not need anything complicated.

Place a statue or holy image of the Infant Jesus of Prague somewhere prominent in your home.

Speak to Him every day.

Tell Him your worries.

Thank Him for your blessings.

Ask Him to protect your family.

Pray a novena when you have a serious intention.

And whenever anxiety begins to take over, repeat:

“Infant Jesus of Prague, I trust in Thee.”

The devotion should gradually teach us something very important:

We are God's children, and He wants us to trust Him as children trust a loving father.
