How to Offer Our Fears to Jesus and Trust in Him
Fear is something we all experience.
We worry about our families.
Our health.
Our finances.
Our future.
Our children.
Our jobs.
Our marriages.
The unknown.
Fear can steal our peace, fill our minds with "what ifs," and make us forget one of the greatest truths of our faith:
Jesus is already there.
Nothing surprises Him. Nothing is beyond His power. And nothing is too great for His love.
Jesus Never Asked Us to Carry Our Fears Alone
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus repeatedly tells His disciples:
"Do not be afraid."
He knows that our hearts are easily troubled. Yet every time He says these words, He follows them with a promise of His presence.
He doesn't promise a life without crosses.
He promises that He will carry them with us.
Give Your Fear a Name
Sometimes we simply say, "I'm anxious."
Instead, tell Jesus exactly what you're afraid of.
Say:
"Jesus, I'm afraid of failing."
"Jesus, I'm afraid of losing someone I love."
"Jesus, I'm afraid about my health."
"Jesus, I'm afraid of what tomorrow holds."
When we name our fears before Him, we stop hiding them and begin placing them into His Sacred Heart.
Place Your Fear Into His Hands
Imagine yourself standing before Jesus.
Now imagine placing your fear into His hands.
Picture Him taking it gently from you.
Then pray:
"Jesus, this belongs to You now. I trust You more than I trust my fears."
Every time the fear returns, place it back into His hands again.
Trust is not usually a one-time act.
It is a daily choice.
Replace Fear with Trust
Fear often repeats the same thoughts over and over.
Replace those thoughts with God's promises.
Instead of saying:
"What if everything goes wrong?"
Say:
"Jesus, I trust in You."
Instead of:
"I'm alone."
Say:
"The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want." (Psalm 23)
Instead of:
"I can't do this."
Say:
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13)
God's truth is stronger than our fears.
Pray Before You Panic
When fear begins to rise, don't let it grow before bringing it to God.
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Pray:
"Jesus, before I carry this any longer, I give it to You."
Even thirty seconds of prayer can bring remarkable peace.
Trust Doesn't Mean Having All the Answers
Sometimes we think trusting God means understanding His plan.
It doesn't.
Trust means believing that God is good, even when life is difficult.
Mary trusted God without knowing every step ahead.
St. Joseph obeyed God without understanding every detail.
The saints trusted not because they had certainty about the future, but because they knew the One who held the future.
Stay Close to Jesus
When fear is overwhelming, stay close to the places where Jesus gives us His grace:
Holy Mass
Eucharistic Adoration
Confession
The Rosary
Sacred Scripture
Quiet prayer before the Blessed Sacrament
The closer we stay to Christ, the less room fear has to take root.
A Prayer of Surrender
One of the simplest and most powerful prayers is:
"Jesus, I surrender myself to You. Take care of everything."
Repeat it whenever fear returns.
These words remind us that we are not in control—but God is.
And His hands are far stronger than ours.
A Prayer of Trust
Lord Jesus,
You know every fear hidden within my heart. You know the worries that keep me awake, the burdens I carry, and the uncertainty I feel.
Today I place them into Your loving hands.
Take my fears and replace them with Your peace. Take my anxiety and fill me with confidence in Your providence. Help me to remember that You are always with me and that nothing happens outside of Your loving care.
Teach me to trust You one day at a time, one prayer at a time, one step at a time.
When fear returns, remind me to look at You instead of my circumstances.
I know that You love me, You are guiding me, and You will never abandon me.
Jesus, I trust in You.
Amen.
An Invitation
Whatever fear you are carrying today, don't carry it alone.
Bring it to Jesus.
Again and again, if necessary.
He is never tired of hearing your prayers.
Remember His words:
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid." (John 14:27)
Today, choose trust over fear.
Not because life is easy...
...but because Christ is faithful.
