What If Your Rosary Is Protecting Someone You Will Never Meet? (Copy)
Sometimes we wonder whether our prayers really make a difference.
We pray the Rosary for our families. We pray for the Church. We pray for our country. We pray for people who are suffering.
But often, we never see what our prayers accomplish.
That can make prayer feel small.
Yet what if the Rosary you prayed this morning obtained a grace for someone you will never meet?
What if one Hail Mary helped a frightened soul return to God?
What if your Rosary strengthened a priest who was discouraged?
What if it helped someone resist a serious temptation?
What if it brought grace to a dying person in his final moments?
We may not know until Heaven.
You Don't Have to Know Who Needs Your Prayer
We usually pray when we know there is a problem.
Someone is sick.
A marriage is struggling.
A family member needs work.
Someone is facing surgery.
A loved one has fallen away from the Faith.
But there are countless people struggling today whose names we will never know.
Somebody is sitting beside a hospital bed.
Somebody is afraid.
Somebody is considering walking away from his marriage.
Somebody hasn't been to Confession in thirty years.
Somebody is losing hope.
Somebody is dying without family beside him.
Somebody desperately needs grace.
You can pray for that person without ever knowing his name.
God knows.
Offer One Decade for Someone Who Needs It
Try something different with your Rosary.
Before beginning one decade, say:
“Our Lady, I offer this decade for the person who most needs these prayers right now.”
Then pray.
Don't worry about discovering who it was for.
Leave that to God.
There is something beautiful about praying for someone who can never repay you, thank you, or even know what you did for them.
It becomes an act of pure charity.
Pray for the Person Who Is Far From God
There are people who aren't praying for themselves.
Pray for them.
There are people who don't believe they need God.
Pray for them.
There are Catholics who haven't received the Sacraments in decades.
Pray for them.
There are people carrying terrible burdens while appearing perfectly fine to everyone around them.
Pray for them.
Our Lady sees what we cannot see.
Ask her to bring your prayers wherever her Son desires them most.
Your Family Needs Your Rosary Too
Before worrying about changing the whole world, begin inside your own home.
Pray for your spouse.
Pray for your children and grandchildren.
Pray for your parents.
Pray for your godchildren.
Pray for family members who have fallen away from the Faith.
You may not be able to convince someone to return to Mass.
You may not be able to solve another person's problems.
You may not know what to say anymore.
But you can quietly pick up your Rosary and say:
“Blessed Mother, I give this person to you. Bring them closer to Jesus.”
Then keep praying.
Our Priests Need Rosaries
We should especially remember our priests.
A priest carries burdens his parishioners may never see.
He needs grace to remain faithful, courageous, holy, and strong.
Imagine if every priest knew that dozens of families were quietly praying a Rosary for him.
Instead of only noticing what our priests could do differently, let us pray for them.
Offer a Rosary for their protection.
For their perseverance.
For their holiness.
For more priestly vocations.
And for priests who are struggling or discouraged.
Massachusetts Needs Your Rosary
It is easy to complain about the direction of our state and our country.
But complaining doesn't convert souls.
Grace does.
So pray.
Pray for Massachusetts.
Pray for our leaders.
Pray for families.
Pray for unborn children.
Pray for schools.
Pray for young people.
Pray for people who have never known Christ.
Pray for Catholics who have stopped practicing their Faith.
Ask Our Lady to obtain a great return to her Divine Son.
You may feel like one person with one Rosary cannot possibly affect an entire state.
Perhaps that isn't the question.
The question is simply:
Will you be faithful with the prayer God has placed in your hands?
Don't Measure Your Rosary by What You See
We live in a world that wants immediate results.
Prayer doesn't always work that way.
You may pray for someone for years.
You may die without ever seeing the answer.
That does not mean those prayers were wasted.
God receives every sincere prayer and answers according to His wisdom and Providence.
Our responsibility is not to control the outcome.
Our responsibility is to pray, persevere, and trust.
Pick Up Your Rosary Today
Perhaps there is someone somewhere who desperately needs prayer today.
You don't know the person's name.
You don't know the situation.
You don't need to.
God does.
So before your Rosary today, simply pray:
“Blessed Mother, I offer this Rosary for my family, for the Church, for Massachusetts, and for the soul who most needs prayer at this moment. Take these prayers to Jesus and use them according to His holy will.”
Then begin.
One Our Father.
Ten Hail Marys.
One decade at a time.
One day at a time.
One soul at a time.
We may reach Heaven one day and discover that some of the smallest prayers we offered quietly were used by God in ways we never imagined.
Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us.
St. Joseph, pray for our families.
St. Catherine of Siena, pray for our parish.
